Leaf through the book

Starting from quickly sketched lines and free associations, from textures and optical dissonances, US painter Jeff Elrod (born 1966) finely balances his complex compositions on the canvas. His exhibition at Galerie Max Hetzler in Paris was titled ESP, a form of perception with some resonance for the artist: “I’m not like super-serious about it, but I do think ESP connects to our experience of art.” This book is a document of the exhibition, collecting images of the paintings as they were hung on the wall in a portfolio, bound between two photographs taken during the creative process. The large-sized images give ample room for each detail, and maybe beyond that some space for extrasensory perception.
